[MUSIC VIDEO REVIEW] TWICE - TT (2016)

TWICE is back again with another album! On Monday, October 24th 2016, TWICE just released their third mini album called TWICEcoaster. This album has TT as their title track.

Both TWICEcoaster and TT is a testament for TWICE.  Many people put huge anticipation for TWICE after the success of their previous single, Cheer Up early this year.  Public are curious whether TWICE able to create another hit and keep up their momentum with TT.

So, will TWICE make it? How does TT sound? Check out my review of TWICE newest title track below…………………………………

“If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it”, would be the perfect term to describe TT. Through this song, TWICE tries to replicate their previous hits formula.  TT is another upbeat track with strong beat and catchy lyrics. It also has several hook parts, which I’m sure will stuck in your head whether you like it or not.

Although TT has similar basic formula like previous songs, TWICE still offers something different in the song arrangement. This nine membered girl group attempts to play out with electronic dance music. The electronic dance music stays throughout the song, but it appears in a subtle way. The subtleness gives more sophisticated and mature feeling to TT.

The arrangement and beat in TT keeps changing from verse until refrain part. This is a good thing because it gives interesting dynamic to TT. The solid song dynamic is TWICE strongest part and one of the key factors that makes people like to listen their songs.

However, TT is not a perfect song. There are several lacking things in TT such as the vocal. TWICE seems to show their cuteness through their vocal by singing different lines with same intonation. This way of singing disrupts the song flow because you cannot differentiate the member voice. Moreover, the repetitive intonation gets irritating as the song progressed.

Another problem is the lyrics. ‘TT’ itself refers to the sad expression in Korean slang words. This song basically tells about TWICE sadness that could not confess their love to their crush. For TWICE who often shows confidence in lyrics, TT lyrics seem kind of bland and uninspired. I wish that TWICE tries different way to show the same meaning, but more sassy expression. Beside that, they way their saying 'I'm like TT' on the refrain part is a bit jarring. It's an expression, girls let's use another lyrics!

As for the music video, TT seems like a mix between Like Ooh Aah dan Cheer Up. The Halloween theme is in line with Like Ooh Aah zombie theme. I like that TWICE explore this theme in detail. From the trick or treat tradition, the old house to pumpkin design, all of them represents Halloween.

Then, there is also a dress up part that represents both Halloween and Cheer Up music video. The nine member of TWICE tries out different costumes from popular character again. There is a pirate (Mina), dracula (Tzuyu), Pinocchio (Jeongyeon), mermaid (Chaeyoung), even bunny (Dahyun). With these different costumes, each girl could showcases their charm along with quirkiness in individual scenes.

The Halloween theme also can be seen in the gloomy atmosphere of TT music video. Most of the background and color tone use something darker like dark blue, brown, and black. However, there is still glimpse of TWICE cheerfulness through the usage of pastel colors on their styling.

TT is TWICE next successful attempt in creating addictive pop track. The song is easy to remember, sing along, and dance to. TT also has a fun music video that match the current Halloween Theme.

Still, TWICE have many rooms to grow. The girls should explore variety kind of tracks in the future, so they won’t stick to the same formula over and over again. TWICE also needs to improve their capabilities, especially in singing part. This is important to prevent them singing with the same intonation just like in TT.

After all, does TWICE make it? Yes, they still make it to the top with TT!
